How can you enter the UCTL?
Those corporate entities or people who comply with the regulations as stated in the previous article and its proceedings may enter the UCTL by any of the following means:
- They acquire or purchase either by means of property transfer or inheritance a particular brand with its own iron and badge.
- They pass the admission test.
- Be direct descendants of a 65-years-old or older associate owner of a brand who transfers the livestock farm and the inductees oblige themselves not to transfer either the original brand or the new one in a three-year period.
- Be direct descendants of an associate and not being heir of a brand already associated with its iron and badge after the former´s demise provided they exercise the aforementioned right in three year´s time after the inheritance act.
The request and acquisition of the title of associate, means giving consent to the Fighting Bull´s breeder´s union for the treatment of their personal data according to the current legislation of protection and treatment of personal data according to the activities and terms of the association and the eventual communication to third parties under the rule of such regulations. The associate can exercise their right to access, correction and cancellation of such data at the institution´s headquarters. See “Statutes” for more information.
How can a livestock breeding be aged?
Such concept is not specified withing the Union´s statute. Common practice for years has been it has to perform a bullfight or a “lanced bullock” at the Madrid bullring with no less than six animals being fought at least five. The Union´s Board of directors is in charge of validating the aspiring brand´s “ageing” status.

What does livestock breeders value most about their breeding?
Over any other consideration, to offer a good show and to cooperate to the event´s success. The most appreciated features are bravery, the disposition to ram, nobility strenght, endurance and mobility.
What are behavioural features?
They are the combination of skills and attitudes of a fighting bull. the fighting bull is the only animal selected because of its behaviour patterns and those of its forebears. Each breeder seeks those features that allow them to offer the kind of animal demanded by the public, the bullfighters and that helps making a difference with the rest of the breeding brands.
What´s the Family tree for?
It´s the tool set that allows to guarantee the origin and features of the bulls that are going to be fought in the bullring(genealogy, identification, origin, age, etc.
What are the bull´s horn sheaths for?
The sheathing of the horns offers more guarantees regarding their livestock´s horns integrity to certain breeders, the livestock of whom frequently suffer of dents by natural wear, by fights or by handling hazards.
Why is the bull speared by the pole rider?
Tha Lancing fulfills three basic purposes in a bullfight. To analyze the quantity and quality of the ramming by the bullfighter and his squad and the breeder, to weaken the animal´s strenght in order to make possible the bullfighter´s creativity and to allow for showing the skill of the pole riders and their lancing mounts.
Where exactly are bulls hit by the spear?
It depends on the morphological features of the animal, its ability to bow its head or not and its fighting prowess and determination.
Regarding the exact location of a bull to be lanced, the idoneous area is that opposite to the pen gate, but that depends in great measure of the animal´s behaviour and directional sense. In breeding-brand contest bullfights, the lancing area is marked by stripes of lime or paint.
What is the cost of breeding a fighting bull?
Recent studies performed by the UCTL establishes minimum breeding costs for a four-year-old bull is €4,000 – €5,000 per head.
